WOMEN KEEP THE BEAUTY INDUSTRY ALIVE, LET’S KEEP THEM ALIVE.

About us

We are the only ongoing, national family violence training program for the Australian hair, beauty and barbering industry, with 1000+ trained salon professionals (and counting!)

Hair3Rs began in 2016 with the help of overseas programs Cut It Out Canada and Family Violence – It’s Not OK. The pilot program launched to Melbourne salons in 2018, with 309 salon professionals trained during the 6 month period. When government funding ceased, we continued training to meet the demand for this critical education.

TRAINING FOR SALON AND BEAUTY PROFESSIONALS

Getting the right support when experiencing family violence can be difficult.

Many people choose to talk to someone they trust, like their hairdresser or beauty therapist. Our training provides salon professionals with the skills to help clients experiencing family violence. For many, this can be lifesaving.

Why you?

Our research showed that salon professionals ARE experiencing disclosures of family violence, but rarely receive formal training in how to manage.

In Australia, 1 women is killed each week due to family violence. Very few women experiencing family violence tell the police or a specialist service first. They’re more likely to talk to someone they trust or have a close bond with. For many, this is a salon professional such as a hairdresser or beauty therapist. Our program bridges this gap and prevents victim-survivors and salon professionals being left at risk.

  • “ARA Hair and Beauty has long been an advocate for the provision of basic family training for salon workers, and sees Hair3Rs as a unique opportunity for those in the industry to learn what drives family violence, and how to support clients who are experiencing violence at home”.

  • “I have nothing but good things to say about Hair3Rs. The training dispelled my anxieties on how to help my clients who may be victims of family violence. Now, I feel more confident in how to safely respond, rather than feeling like a helpless bystander. Thank you team for your engaging and extremely very insightful training. It has made a massive impact on how I can assist my clients as a salon professional; we must all do our part in potentially saving a life.”

  • “My entire career as a salon professional, we have been seen as “therapists”, with a lot of (sometimes overwhelming) information being shared with us, often without knowing if or how to help. Hair3Rs is a game changer for all salon professionals as it builds awareness and makes us better equipped to bridge the gap between clients and professional services that can help if they are experiencing family violence.”

  • “This course is exactly what this whole world needs to hear and our industry is so privileged to have it delivered to us in such a professional and compassionate manner. I’ve taken this training twice now and would do it again in a heartbeat. The education is relevant and profound and gives us information as well as strategies to be able to make a real difference in our world.”

  • “Hair3Rs is essential for our industry as it gives us important information and trains us how to safely communicate with our clients. This course has changed the way I approach a conversation and has given me a better understanding on what is gender inequality. I become an ambassador for Hair3Rs in 2019 and I feel this is the most important role I have taken on throughout my career.”

  • “Hair3Rs is at the forefront of the movement for equality and better, safer lives for women in Australia and around the world. I encourage every hair professional I know to become part of that future.”
